A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a detailed report prepared by a qualified occupational therapist. Its purpose is to help describe how a person manages daily tasks like self-care, communication, mobility, learning, and community participation. An FCA highlights both what someone can do well and where supports may help, based on standardised assessments, observation, and feedback from family or carers.

An FCA may be useful when applying for or reviewing an NDIS plan. While it does not guarantee approval or specific funding, it can supply evidence to help NDIS decision-makers understand individual needs, and support the setting of realistic, goal-oriented therapy plans.
